Matthew joined the board in September 2024.
He trained originally as Sociology teacher at Goldsmiths College and in Educational Film and Television production at Middlesex University. He worked in Secondary education developing curriculum-based learning materials before leaving to pursue a business career that included working in the UK public and private sectors and work in European, Asian, North American and Middle Eastern markets. Towards the end of his commercial career, he was actively involved in organizational development and change in the IT industry.
In his early 50's he became interested in the role of the arts in personal and organizational change took as Dramatherapy Master’s training course at the University of Roehampton. During this time, he helped establish a charity that established and ran a Community Arts Centre, negotiating with his local council and church authorities to secure premises and funding. On qualifying as a dramatherapist he continued to work in the public and private sectors, completing a Dramatherapy Masters researching working as a dramatherapist during a hostile merger and acquisition , before taking a two day offer of work in a Secondary school on the edge of the Britwell estate in Slough. Those two days led to change in his work, and a 10-year working relationship with Slough Schools as a dramatherapist working with parents, teachers and pupils in schools, where he also served as a Governor, and in Alternative Education Provision. He later joined the Department of Psychology at Roehampton University as a Senior Lecturer where he taught on the Masters Dramatherapy course. Matthew now lives in South Shropshire he has continued in Private Practice.
Until recently he was Chair of The Bleddfa Trust, a Arts and Community Centre in rural Powys and saw it through a successful merger with The Sydney Nolan Trust, with similar ambitions to support the artistic and cultural life of the local communities in the English Welsh Borders. He has two adult children and is married to a retired Barrister.
